A Maafushi trip budget is easiest to plan in separate parts: accommodation, food, airport transfers, excursions and a reserve. Count nights and days separately, and check whether each quote is for one person, two people or one room.
A worked example for two adults
The following is an illustrative four-night, five-day planning exercise, not a current package or a claim about average prices. Replace every assumption with your own final, tax-inclusive quote.
- One room: assume US$90 per night × four nights = US$360.
- Food and drinking water: allow US$50 per day for two × five days = US$250.
- Return shared speedboats: assume US$25 each way × two people = US$100.
- One shared snorkeling day: assume US$40 each = US$80.
- One extra activity: set aside US$120 for two.
This example totals US$910 for two, before any separately billed Green Tax or other charges. A 15% reserve adds US$136.50, bringing the working allowance to US$1,046.50 plus any excluded taxes. International flights, insurance, SIMs, shopping and resort day passes are excluded. The room and food figures are chosen assumptions; they are not researched market rates.
Understand taxes and service charges
MIRA states that tourism-sector GST is 17% from 1 July 2025. Ask which tax applies to each supplier and whether it is already included. Do not add it twice to a tax-inclusive bill.
For a qualifying hotel or guesthouse on an inhabited island with 50 or fewer registered rooms, Green Tax is US$6 per tourist per day of stay; larger establishments generally charge US$12. For two adults over four chargeable nights, that means US$48 or US$96. Confirm your property's category and the chargeable stay calculation. Service charges may also appear separately.
Make your budget work harder
Choose your must-do excursion first, then fit the room and optional rides around it. Compare breakfast and meal plans against when you will be off-island. Keep enough money for a changed transfer or an extra night if plans shift. Request a single written total before paying deposits.
